Green Island

After 2 months in Taiwan, it was time to explore the country a bit more. Some friends and I decided to spend a long weekend on Green island and a night in Taitung. Taitung is a small city in the east of the country, famous for its Hot Springs and beautiful landscapes. We enjoyed some food at the night market and had a long walk in the Ocean Park.

The ferry ride to Green Island was surprisingly horrible. When entering the ferry I wondered why they had plastic bags hanging from every window in large quantities. I was going to find out soon. Everyone in our group looked like they took some hits to the stomach, when we finally arrived. But being greeted by this beautiful view, we soon forgot the ferry horror.

We decided to do a hiking trip across the ancient mountain trails. It was nice to amazing to see the completely different flora and fauna.

On our 2nd day we visited the former prison for political prisoners. It is still hard to grasp how a place this beautiful can be home to such a horrible part of history.

On our last day we woke up around 5 am. To catch a glimpse of the sunrise from the hot springs. Unfortunately it was to cloudy to see more than some reddish through the cloud but it was worth it anyways. We had the whole hot spring for just our little group.

The end came abruptly,  but it felt a little bit like the island was saying goodbye to us with this rainbow over the port.
